I’ve never talked to anyone. I’m used to handling things on my own. Aren’t people who go to therapy weak?
Not at all. People who ask for help know when they need it and have the courage to reach out. Everyone needs help now and then. In our work together, we will help you explore and identify your strengths and how to implement them to reduce the influence of the problems you are facing.
What’s the difference between talking to a therapist vs. my best friend or family?
The difference is between someone who can give you subjective advice, and someone who has the training and experience to do that same thing professionally and in an objective manner. A mental health professional can help you approach your situation in a new way– teach you new skills, gain different perspectives, listen to you without judgment or expectations, and help you listen to yourself. Furthermore, therapy or counseling is completely confidential. You won’t have to worry about others “knowing my business.” Lastly, if your situation provokes a great deal of negative emotion, and you’ve been confiding in a friend or family member, there is the risk that once you are feeling better you could start avoiding that person so you aren’t reminded of this difficult time in your life.
Why shouldn’t I just take medication?
Medication can be effective but themselves cannot solve your problems nor get to the heart of the matter. Research shows that medications works best when combined with therapy because they only decrease the intensity of your feelings about something, but don’t address them nor your underlying problem. Our work together is designed to explore and unpack your struggles, explore your thoughts and feelings, provide solutions or coping skills and expand on your strengths that can help you accomplish your personal goals, and much more.
How does it work? What do I have to do in sessions?
Because each person has different issues and goals for counseling, it will be different depending on the indivdiual. Our therapists’ are trained to guide your therapy to meet your specific needs.
How long will it take?
Unfortunately, this is not possible to say in a general FAQs page. Everyone’s circumstances are unique to them. The length of time therapy can take to allow you to accomplish your goals, depends on your desire for personal development, your commitment, and the factors that are driving you to seek therapy in the first place.
I want to get the most out of therapy. What can I do to help?
At Mental Wealth Counseling & Therapy, we are glad to work with clients that are dedicated to get the most out of their sessions. Your active participation and dedication will be crucial to your success, as well as, regular attendance. That is all you need to get started.
How long does each session last & can I have extended time sessions?
Initial Intake appointments can last up to 1 hour. Consequent sessions are 45 mins and at the same time each week. However, there are circumstances under which they can last 53+mins and that will be a discussed with you, if that is your recommended treatment. There are also times in everyone’s life where they need more support and guidance, and during such time periods therapy can increase to twice a week. This can also be further explored once you start working with one of our therapists.
How much does each session cost and do you take insurance?
Our therapists are not paneled with any insurance companies. We have a set fee for our clients, regardless of what they are presenting with. Initial Intake sessions involve comprehensive assessment and treatment planning and cost $325 for Individuals and $350 for Couples’ therapy. Weekly Sessions are $250 for Individuals and $285 for Couples’ Therapy. Payment is due on the day of your appointment.
If you have insurance with out-of-network benefits (usually a PPO), we provide you with a special invoice called a Superbill, that you can submit to your insurance company for direct reimbursement. We do not directly get involved with insurance company reimbursements.
What forms of payments do you except and when is it due?
Payment is due on the day of your appointment. To make the process seamless and hassle-free for everyone, we keep a debit/credit card on file and it gets automatically charged on the morning of your appointment. For the safety of our therapists we do not carry any cash or checks.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule my appointment?
Our therapists understand that things come up and appointments occasionally need to be cancelled or rescheduled. We ask that you discuss any upcoming time off in advance so that we can alter your treatment plan to accommodate your absence. In general we require at least 48 business hour notice for any cancellations or reschedule requests. Any no-shows, forgotten appointments etc. will be charged. However, if there is a health emergency that comes up, we ask that you call and discuss this with your therapist so that an informed decision can be made regarding your appointment charge.
